Research Interests

The mechanisms and treatment of asthma: specifically the regulation of environmental allergen-induced airway inflammation and the development of new anti-inflammatory asthma treatments.

Publications

He has published more than 390 peer reviewed papers, including papers in New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Nature Medicine, AJRCCM, JACI and the Journal of Immunology. He has authored 96 book chapters, and edited 12 books.

Background

Paul M. O’Byrne obtained his Medical Degree at University College, Dublin, Ireland and his training in Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He undertook research training under the supervision of Dr. Freddy Hargreave at McMaster University and then Dr. Jay A. Nadel at the Cardiovascular Research Institute in San Francisco.
